Information, resources, and support

The Resource Centre

entrance to Vision Bath

The Resource Centre is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 12.30pm. You are welcome to drop by, although we suggest that you make an appointment if possible, to be sure someone will be free to see you.

If you cannot get to the Resource Centre yourself, we can arrange for someone to visit you in your home to demonstrate the equipment available.

We have a range of useful aids to daily living, including talking watches and clocks, cooking aids and writing aids. Click on this link to the Resource Centre catalogue for a list of items for sale.

Stocks are held of the most popular items, and others can be ordered from a range of suppliers. If you can't see what you are looking for, we will be pleased to undertake some research for you and see if we can find something to help any specialised requirements. We can provide a mail order service. To place an order, or to ask about items that are not listed here, contact the Resource Centre on 01225 446 555.

Parking is available in Sainsbury’s car park for up to 90 minutes.

Information

We can provide information on a wide variety of subjects of interest to people with a visual impairment. Subjects include where specialist equipment can be obtained, holidays and hotels catering for visually impaired people, talking newspapers, periodicals and books, computers and IT software. You can also search yourself in our Directory of Information. The Directory is available here.

Talking books

talking book library

Members are very welcome to drop by the Resource Centre to borrow from our growing collection of audiobooks. There is no charge; all we need to do is take a note of which titles have been borrowed, and cross them off when they are returned. The collection includes classic novels, light fiction, adventure, crime, travel, biographies, humour, and poetry. Most of the talking books are recorded onto cassette tape, although some are on CD.

We also have a small collection of audio-described videos. These provide a description of what is happening on the screen so that visually impaired people can enjoy the story along with their sighted friends and family. There are even a few children’s videos, so you can watch and enjoy such films as ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’ together with your grandchildren.

We are always grateful for new additions to the audiobook library, so if you have any which you no longer need, do please let us know.
